A little Christmas rock and soul music for your Yule Days!
I Like Dinner likes Christmas music. We like Santa. We like Mrs Claus. We like Rudolph. We like receiving presents. We like snow. We like icicles. We like a tannenbaum. We like rum balls. We like Charlie Brown Christmas. We like Red Ryder BB Guns. We like bells (both silver and Salvation). We like it when the Yuletide spirit make our hearts grow three sizes. Yeah, it's a good time so we wrote a song about being sad at Christmas. Go figure.
Where in the name of St Nick is the corner of Cinnamon & Pine? Well, it's right down the street from the five and dime where the Salvation Army pail is. It's just past the part of downtown where they still roast chestnuts, sing doo wop on the street corner and you could swear that the guy at the end of the bar is Tom Waits. You can always see the snow falling under the glare of the streetlights and the plows have piled up snow so you can't even see the curb.
lyrics
The Salvation Santa’s ringing his bell
Drop him some coin he wishes me well
But it’s just not the same without your hand in mine
Down on the corner of Cinnamon and Pine
Let it snow, let it bury me
Santa send your sleigh, bring her back to me
It’s just not the same without your hand in mine
Down on the corner of Cinnamon and Pine
Merry this & jingle that
Santa I’ve been good so bring my baby back
My Christmas will be green, my new years blue
Each day is just another day without you
Chestnuts are burning the fire won’t start
Some force of nature is keeping us apart
Is it the sleet, the ice or snow
Won’t somebody tell me
Does anybody know?
Snow is falling just like it should
Down on the corner of our old neighborhood
It’s not Christmas without your hand in mine
Down on the corner Cinnamon and Pine
Let it snow on Cinnamon and Pine

I Like Dinner has put together a swinging arrangement for Cinnamon and Pine. They got the sly devil himself, Alan MacEwen of the Grandsons, to sing lead and whistle...and got the angelic Craig Evans of the Taters to sing some backing vocal. Last but not least, RVA's Brendan Yerian laid down a sweet tenor solo and bass doo wop vocals!
Recorded by Bill McElroy at Slipped Disc in Ashland, Va.
Per usual, I Like Dinner has been Matt Sedgley, Vivian Kao, Eric Bowers & Chris Watling
With Special Guests:
Alan MacEwen - vocal, whistle, trumpet
Craig Evans - backing vocals
Brendan Yerian - sax solo, backing vocals
And we are once again grateful for Matt Brown for graphical assistance.
